Can end-user bandwidth crowd sourcing solve the Internet video congestion problem?

Giraffic is based on an advanced, patented technology which turns your end users into valuable resources through the enrichment of their own user experience. The core of the solution is a new streaming technology that can retrieve data from multiple sources simultaneously in random order, without latency, at a fraction the cost of existing content delivery solutions.
Giraffic is a robust fully distributed cloud, leveraging the universal presence of end-users, together with sophisticated data and streaming management algorithms.

Communepro.com is pleased to publish interview of Mr. Yoel Zanger the CEO and Founder of Giraffic, as he spoke to us on his comapny's innovative technology.

Communepro: Please explain us how this new P2P innovation is helping IPTV channels in reducing their bandwidth cost by 50%?

Yoel: Giraffic's customers today have already shown ability to offload over 80% of their bandwidth from their Content Delivery Network provider or their own datacenter into Giraffic's end user cloud. Since Giraffic's entire bandwidth is comprised of the end-user's aggregate home bandwidth, it is completely FREE.

Taking 80% -95% Traffic offload and subtracting ROI Based license fee amounts to 50-70% in content provider's total costs.

Communepro: When we hear about P2P technology being used in innovation to reduce the bandwidth cost, first thought that comes to mind of a content owner is sheer apprehension of piracy  that we have seen in Bit Torrent or Napstar. How you are going to assure your bandwidth reduction will not lead to increased piracy because you are using P2P ? Are your clients safe from any piracy issue?

Yoel: Giraffic's cloud is absolutely secure and protected from all forms of piracy and other security breaches. The content provider's existing encryption and Digital Rights Management are strictly maintained and additional layers of encryption and network sniffing protection are added. Communepro: How much of subscriber density you need for an effective reduction of cost?  Will the technology work universally? Did you run any experiment or case studies?

Yoel: Our solution works effectively both with geographical based subscriber density and in remote non dense geo locations. We have millions of users today in over 70 different countries, of which some countries like US, Uk, Germany or Japan are dense with Giraffic end-users and most countries aren't. Giraffic acceleration Performance is guaranteed in all regions regardless of geo density, and our case studies demonstrate that, two examples:

a. Veoh.com is a Giraffic customer where we have demonstrated ability to accelerate and off      load to our P2P network 83% of their traffic , with hundreds of thousands of different video files, millions of users and views.

b. UK based Craze Digital operates several online movie sites featuring hundreds of full length feature films to users in over 50 different countries. Even in extremely remote geographical locations such as Trinidad or Saudi Arabia, Giraffic's metrics demonstrated high user experience metrics and vast user satisfaction from the quality and streaming speed.

Communepro: Tell us about your customers. Are they all OTT IPTV channels? Or your technology will work with any CDN?

Yoel: Our customers are both Online Video sites such as Veoh.com, Craze and as well as DTH Satellite TV operators and TV broadcasters who serve Video OTT over IP.

Our technology is interpreted with any CDN. Current live cases include seamless interoperability with CDNs such as Akamai, Limelight and EdgeCast as well as other commercial CDNs and private server and ISP infrastructure.
